5 most important concepts

Throughout this course so far we have learned several concepts that have impacted our writing style. It also helped us analyze concepts we normally would not think to analyze - concepts that we do thoughtlessly. We think the five most important concepts are everyday writing, rhetorical situation, genre, audience, and purpose.
Everyday writing is a key concept in this course because, it is a way to organize your thoughts on a tangible item. Everyday writing helps people connect with one another by writing letters, notes, and sending e-mails. Everyday writing simplifies one's life by remembering tasks and ensuring a productive day is had for example a to do list. To do lists map out one's schedule in an informal which makes it very convenient and easy to create.
Rhetorical situation is the context of a rhetorical event that consists of an issue, an audience, and a set of circumstances. Rhetorical situation plays an important role in our course because it helps us understand when to use rhetoric in our everyday lives - under the circumstances of having an audience, guidelines, requirements, and purpose. Rhetorical situation affects writing because everytime someone sits down to write, rhetorical situation exists. Examining the elements of rhetorical situation helps you meet the needs of your audience.
Genre is a concept where one categorizes different types of everyday writing through it's own style, situation, and requirements. This is an important concept because it goes hand in hand with how we write everyday. Everyday writing is based off of genre through casual writing. Some examples of genre we use everyday are: lists, informal/formal writing, and taking notes.
Audience is an important concept because it changes the way one writes. For example, the audience determines how informal or formal your writing will be. Audience changes your approach on how to write. If you are writing an essay, it will need to be written a few times and proofread because you know that someone like your professor will read it - which makes it formal writing. Contrary to that, if you are writing to a friend or yourself, then the writing is not as structured and is more carefree - which makes it more informal. As a writer, the audience is important because you need to know the needs, the education level, the reactions the audience will have.
Purpose is also an important concept because it is the underlying reason as to why you are writing. Depending on one's purpose, it changes that style of writing. Some examples are purpose are to persuade, to inform, to apologize, and to reinforce. For example, if you are trying to persuade your audience, you are trying to make your audience see from your given point or subject.
