  2. 1) Thoughtful and personal, A short note, addressed to a person, put thought into it, signed the card, humorous, Simple sentence structure, typed, Sent with a gift from one of those brands that you can buy flowers or chocolates with, Nicer than a letter, Money and effort was put into it.

    2) Hand addressed, signed, printed hand written, fonts are formal, has a rose on it, came in an envelope, Had a name on the front of the card, it is a letter, signed president and vice president of the sorority chapter,

    Envelope Note
Qualities: Personal, slang/abbreviations, short, simple, sloppy, pen, back of a ripped envelope
It's everyday because it's a personal note and there was no purpose then to just make Suzann feel loved

    Graduation Card
Qualities: script, very personal, sentimental, pen, thoughtful, has purpose
It's everyday because it's a personal/casual card and only meant for recipient

Go through and pick out the qualities of the thing-- what did they do? What makes this everyday writing?

First item= Sticky note from my mom

    - Written by someone to someone, brief, personal, natural, casual, voluntary, informal (on a sticky note), form of communication, thoughtful, handwritten on a sticky note with a black sharpie, written on a small sticky note from a dorm room, thoughtful because she drew a heart and a smiley face on it (emotional), Informal also because text abbreviations were used "u" instead of "you", decorative sticky note with a flower on it.

Second item: Sticky note as a reminder to self

    - Even more informal than item 1, messy handwriting written in black ink pen on a hot pink sticky note, Used as a reminder to self that only makes sense to self, extremely brief (one word), looks like it was written quickly, completely thoughtless as it's not a gesture to anyone, intended for only myself to see it, on a square sticky note.

  5. Note from RA on an index card. It is handwritten without complete sentences or structure. It is not formally addressed. It's essentially an invitation, but very casual. It was written in pen and the most important part is highlighted. It was folded in half and taped on a door handle.

An organized planner that has every day of the week divided into three sections (morning, afternoon, and evening). There is a full calendar on the top left. Underneath the calendar is a "weekly checklist". Underneath the weekly checklist is a little box for notes. The days of the week are filled in with bullet points of assignments and things to do. Everything is written in pen.

  6. This suggestion box is an example of everyday writing because students have the option to drop in casual notes all day, any day, at anytime. It is informal and reflects personal wants through the notes. The suggestions are not too thoughtful and not serious. It is written on scrap paper, suggesting that it is casual. No note is a true and descriptive sentence. Some are written in pen and some are written in pencil, which illustrates there is no proper way to do it, The box itself is casual and personal, letting the students know that the comments are not expected to be formal.

The Jimmy John's sign is put together with every day items such as paper and using a sharpie. It was made by a person himself for personal use, and not anyone else. The item itself did not take much thought to create, but it gets the idea across and has its purpose.

  8. Qualities: Handwritten, shows emotion, sincere, thankful, casual, cursive in pen, dated, hard to read,

Why this shows every day writing: This card is a way for the writer to communicate to the receiver in a quick casual way thanking him.

Qualities: multiple suggestions, handwritten, short statements, on scrap paper, pen and pencil, different color paper, comes in a decorated box.

Why this shows every day writing: Multiple people are expressing their feelings on what they want in a quick easy matter.
